Although not usually very happy to publish a list of cities with high rates
of violence, the fact is that the statistic at least serves to illustrate that
in certain cities of the world, one must move carefully. The following list is
published in OpenTravel is based on statistics on violence indicators to
determine which are the five most dangerous cities in the world, at least among
those studied.
It is not ruled out a trip to some of them. Violence often occurs in marginal
areas or parts of the city, except as one would recommend anyone to tread.
5. Cape Town. South Africa / if the number of homicides decreased, the figures
continue to be alarming. The future site of the 2010 World Cup, has much to
improve, although it is expected that during the event, be transformed into the
affected areas, one of the safest cities in the world for a few days.
4. New Orleans. United States / The less friendly side of the American dream,
despite their great cultural value. In one of the poorest states in the country,
violence is rife. The city, ravaged by poverty deepened by the catastrophe of
Hurricane Katrina, is the murder capital in the country. The recommendation is
not acting alone in desolate areas, let alone at night.
3. Caracas. Venezuela / Among the most dangerous cities in the world,
Venezuela’s capital is notorious as the "murder capital", an index closely
related to the drug trade and gang warfare. However, one must always
differentiate their neighborhoods and areas, many safe and others on which is
best avoided, especially the poorest.
2. Ciudad Juárez. Mexico / Destination magnificent and historic natural areas,
is unfortunately, a city overrun by drugs and violence. Near the border with the
United States, drug cartels have taken over the city imposing its own law.
1. Mogadishu. Somalia / Unlike the others, we are in a city at war. Travel to
this city are alerted as persistently dangerous. Terrorism, anarchy, fighting
between ethnic groups, kidnapping, and piracy, have won the battle of barbarism.
The explosions and gun battles are part of the soundtrack of a normal day in a
city completely devastated.
