While all information on the new influenza (swine misnamed) is insufficient,
especially regarding the scope and future expansion of the disease, the fact is
that the market impact of travel and tourism seems to anticipate as a gigantic
laboratory in Mexico. The premise seems to be necessary, is that fear has more
weight when traveling to affected areas.
While thousands of tourists from around the world cancel trips to the country in
a sort of tourist quarantine, restrictions to contain and prevent the advance of
new flu points to freeze at least a few days, the activities in Mexico,
affecting of course major tourist destinations. Cities such as Cancun or Playa
del Carmen is half
So far, countries confirmed restrictions and cancellations for travel to and from Mexico by the new flu are Argentina, Peru, Cuba and Ecuador, while Canada has left open the possibility that many of its airlines to cancel flights, and the European Union chose to continue allowing travel to Mexico, while not recommended to do so, a way to give rise to many European citizens in Mexico, so that peace can return to their countries, if deemed necessary.
The World Health Organization promotes the view that the cancellation and flight restriction is somehow something useless once the disease has begun to spread. The position would anticipate (still in the realm of speculation) that even if the disease becomes present in every country, the flights would operate normally always take the precautions necessary with each passenger at the onset of any symptoms.
In principle, greatly affected the tourism industry are the cruise lines, who fail in their scales in the most popular Mexican destinations, airlines traveling to Mexico, and of course the important services sector linked to tourism in the country.
The question is will happen in future, with a disease that does not seem to stop its slow progress. The most pessimistic predictions, speak of a retraction of market travel and tourism that could reach alarming levels, with significant impacts in countries like Spain, just to give an example, in addition to the already visible effects on pockets and contributions of companies the tourism sector.
The estimates, in case of a breakthrough for this disease are always conjectural, a situation unprecedented in recent history, we all hope is resolved as far as possible.
